 Mike THOmas

Founder & Director

Mike's career has been defined by a simple conviction: that education, done well, changes people. Not just what they know — but how they see themselves and the world around them.

Over the years he has served as a Technical Expert and Advisor for organisations including Outward Bound Hong Kong, Dragonfly, Asia Adventure Sports, and the International College of Hong Kong — contributing to the development of new activity areas including Coasteering and Canyoning in the region.

From the end of 2025 to mid-2026 he worked with the Outdoor Council of Australia and the Australian Adventure Activity Standard Steering Committee on updating their Good Practice Guides — a framework for the safe and responsible planning and delivery of outdoor adventure activities across the sector.

Mike presents regularly at forums including the HK Teaching & Learning Exposition, 6seconds, HKEEN, HKOLA, and Pre-U Motion at United World College Changshu — sharing research, practice, and the kind of thinking that tends to generate more questions than it answers.

He founded Outside-In in 2020 with the goal of bringing all of it together — the qualifications, the experience, the methodology, and the belief that the most meaningful growth happens through genuine challenge, not in spite of it.
